It is time for a makeover for our Animal Control facility!!! It is LONG overdue, and it's time for us as Stamford and CT residents to speak up. Our ACOs and volunteers are doing the absolute best they can with what they have - which is not much! They have to ask for donations of food/litter/blankets, etc. daily, and today when it dropped to -10 with the wind chill, the shelter posted BEGGING for space heaters on their Facebook page. You mean to tell me that Stamford cannot even afford to put a heating/air conditioning system in a building that houses LIVING beings?! These animals are being kept in a facility with no heat and no air - how can we call our shelter Animal "CARE" and Control when it is so very clear by the mere appearance of the "shelter" that the City of Stamford and it's representatives simply do not?

As a member of the animal rescue community, I can vouch for the fact that the aesthetic of the Stamford shelter does its adoption rate no favors. It's hard enough to adopt out pit-mixes (which make for 80% of shelter population), but the city is giving them NO help when they are being kept in a facility that is falling apart and gives a somber vibe rather than a happy vibe that breeds second chances. The walls are chipping paint, the kennels look more like a jail, and there is a "makeshift" quarantine area, among other things that need much improvement. Please, if you care anything for the welfare of our homeless pets - SPEAK UP! Sign this petition, support this cause, and I promise I will make sure that every single important decision-making person will see this and that we, the residents will be heard!!! This is just the beginning of this process, and it will be a long road - but if we are in this together, we can make this happen.
