Union Square needs to have more housing options to ensure that existing families grow, new families can put down roots, and young workers can find a place to call home. Living close to work adds convenience, proximity to restaurants and shops, cuts down on commutes, and increases time to spend with our families and friends.

As the city of Somerville and Union Square evolve, new employers and jobs will come to the Square, and more people will want to live here, further increasing the pressure for new housing.

We need additional housing in the Square that is available to the people who already live here and to accommodate those who would want to live here. Therefore, we urge our city officials to make new housing a priority in Union Square.
