Remove the Confederate Monument from Downtown Perry

Remove the Confederate Monument from Downtown Perry

The Issue

As the country continues to evolve with respect to minority communities and the targets of systematic racism, it is important that Perry does not fall even further behind the rest of the nation. The statue honoring confederate soldiers located in Downtown Perry is a lingering symbol of oppression for many of the city's residents. Perry cannot be complacent in its attempts to eradicate racism, and destroying this symbol would be an important step in making our city more welcoming to minority communities.

We erect statues to honor those who have made great contributions and sacrifices for our cities. Not to those who condoned the ownership of human beings. I am asking those in power to strongly consider removing this monument.
