We filed a Freedom of Information request with the City of Greater Sudbury asking them for basic statistics and information on the animals sent for research, if any for the past five years on March 31, 2017. We have appealed their decision letter and after an unsuccessful mediation, we will proceed to the adjudication stage with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario Office. We proceed to adjudication on three things: the basis that the City says they do not have legal custody or control of some records and has not provided them and we would like to know if that is true, that we feel a reasonable search of records was not conducted and we are also disputing the fee given as unreasonable. It will be up to a judge at the IPC office to determine the validity of our concerns. This process may take years. Meanwhile, the Ward Councillor who offered to have a conversation about this issue with us (the one that the other Ward Councillors directed us to) has been ignoring our emails for months. We have also had to contact the Ontario Ombudsman after being told by City of Greater Sudbury official that we cannot have a public delegation to discuss this request since our petition was not added as a civic petition to the agenda even though it meets their criteria as outlined on their website. The Ombudsman told us that we most certainly can have a public delegation and with the help of other Animal Advocate organizations we plan to in the future. We hope to be able to receive the information we requested from the City of Greater Sudbury so we can share it with our petitioners. Thank you for your support.
