Removing the roundabouts on 16th ave in Denver
During the beginning of covid the city of Denver installed roundabout barriers on 16th ave in attempt to calm traffic. In hopes of making the streets safer for everyone. These roundabouts have had the complete opposite affect. Time after time I've seen bicyclists hit or nearly hit. At a very scary accident scene a few weeks ago where a man was hit on his bike. His only request for help, was to help fight to get the city to remove the roundabouts. It was what I thought would be a simple mission but has become a challenging one. These roundabouts are not just dangerous for bike riders. The placement of some of the barriers make it hard to tell which way on coming traffic is going to turn. It's also hard for people crossing the street because you can not see some types of cars turn signal threw the roundabouts. I've been interviewed by the local news twice about this issue. Both times the camera caught car after car veering into the bike lane to beable to go around the roundabouts. If the idea is to make shared streets this is not the way. Please sign the petition in hopes of getting the cities attention about how truly dangerous these barriers are. They plan on removing them next year at some point once they can install a protected bike lane. But how many more people are going to be hit between now and then? These roundabouts are truly causing more harm than good! Thank you for taking the time to help!
