It is a long time waiting for people in Tambaram to Velachery route  to get a break through to find a better transportation facility. Tambaram to Velachery locality contains the fastest growing places of Chennai. Most of the people in this locality are traveling to various places of Chennai each day. Also, this route connects people to reach lT corridor of Chennai.

Our former Chief Minister Ms. Selvi Jeya Lalita has promised for a Monorail in this corridor. But unfortunately it didn't come through. As per the latest Information, in few years  the proposed Tambaram-Velachery corridor of Chennai Metro may have a ‘Metrolite‘ (Light Rail). 

Chennai Metro has proposed ‘Metrolite‘ on the new proposed metro corridor connecting Tambaram railway station and Velachery MRTS railway station to easing mobility for commuters along the route. Metrolite cost effective when comparing with other transportation like Metro rail / Monorail. The Tamil Nadu government will soon conduct a feasibility study on the new route that will recommend possible alignments to connect the two areas, the estimated cost of the project and other details.

As we all know this route is known for the traffic issues because of the failure of land accusation for road widening project by the government for a decade. Because people are not willing  to loose their land. Also the roads in medavakkam is already widened for flyover construction and going to be widened again for Metro phase 2 construction (which should have been planned along with flyover).

Metrolite uses very less land compared with Metro rail and less expensive. If government could act immediately this can be built as multi model integrated corridor (running below the metro line) in medavakkam  which will benefit people in the locality from loosing land one more time for MetroLite.
