The NRMA charging network – ALL members’ electric vehicles must be catered for!

As currently planned, the NRMA’s network of electric vehicle charging stations in regional locations around NSW will cater only for vehicles that have DC capabilities, using CCS2 or CHAdeMO plugs. There will be no provision for AC only vehicles. This means a sizeable proportion of the membership who use AC only vehicles will have no access to the network. It is acknowledged that there are few options for DC charging available at the moment, but excluding members with AC charging needs is not a fair outcome, particularly as AC facilities could be added to the DC chargers for a comparatively trivial extra cost. The 50kW DC chargers will cost upwards of $50k each. A 22kW AC charger could be added for no more than $5k.
I have been a member of the NRMA for many decades, and apart from having a couple of batteries replaced and being towed a couple of times, have made very little use of the services offered. Given the reliability of electric vehicles, it is very unlikely I will need their assistance in the future. Surely the ability to use the NRMA network to charge my ZOE is not an unreasonable expectation. If not, why should I maintain my NRMA membership?
