STOP DEMOLITION of St. John’s Cantius!
The Issue
Demolishing St. John’s Cantius Church would take a magnificent piece of historical architecture away from Northampton.
It’s destruction would be a major loss to our historic district and the community.
REPURPOSE this structure!
To keep this amazing piece of historical architecture in Ward 3, we are establishing a petition to repurpose the church rather than destruction.
This Church is situated on Hawley Street in Northampton’s historic downtown and next to the Pomeroy Historic District. Many tourists and newly relocated residents come to Northampton not only for it’s safe, charm and lively community, but because of its exquisitely detailed 19th and 20th century architecture.
This church was constructed in 1910 of a striking yellow brick, the glorious bell tower is part of Northampton’s skyline which aids in navigating through the city streets in this historic district. The front of the church has a gorgeous detailed Romanesque-style circular detailed window.
