The midwives at Jacobi Medical Center (JMC) and North Central Bronx (NCB) hospitals are fighting for a fair contract to improve working conditions and retention of midwives. This is vital to the health of Bronx mothers and families.

JMC and NCB midwives are employed by Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) under an agreement with NYC Health+Hospitals, the largest public health system in the country. 

The capacity and quality of care available at JMC and NCB is under threat by the ongoing inadequate staffing. Pressure to see too many patients in too short a time means rushed appointments, disruption to the provider patient bond, and risk for dangerous medical errors. This is a direct threat to patient safety. The midwives are forced to work long, exhausting overtime shifts that lead to burnout and high turnover. These working conditions and lack of resources contribute to unequal health outcomes for our community. Families of the Bronx deserve experienced midwives.
