WE WANT THE RELEASE OF 16 CHRISTIAN ORPHANS INCARCERATED IN A MUSLIM ORPHANAGE FOR OVER 2 YEARS BY KANO STATE GOVERNMENT IN NIGERIA

The continued detention of the 16 christian children from Du Merci Orphanage by Kano State Government in an Islamic Orphanage for over 2 years sparked outrage online when it was learned that the children have been neglected, abused and Islamized. Five minors among them were separated from the older children and transfered to a remote village, Gaya and were converted to muslims, with their names changed to Hausa names: – Emmanuel (5 years) his name was changed to ‘Ismail’, Destiny (5 years) changed to ‘Samaila’, Mercy (4 years) changed to ‘Amina’, Martha (5 years) changed to ‘Khadijat’, and Esther (8 years) changed to ‘Fatima’.

The children are reportedly emaciated, unkempt and traumatized. According to impeccable sources, the children can no longer speak English and now communicate only in Hausa language having also been deeply indoctrinated with quarantine recital in Arabic.

One of the 16 children (Moses), also spent 7 months in the hospital due to third degree burn by fire at the Government Orphanage and has not been followed up with physiotherapy treatment, thereby rendering his fingers and wrist disfigured.

According to the family of Prof. Solomon Tarfa, the children were initially 27 in number, but 2 sick kids were abandoned in a private hospital by the Commissioner of women affairs Dr Zahrau Mohammed Umar, 8 were released to Christian Association of Nigeria Kano, because they rebelled for not being allowed to attend church and school for 2 years, and Sarah, a graduate and the most senior of them all was thrown out because she was protective to her minor siblings and was reporting the persecution they were encountering to her parents and lawyer.

The Professor's family said, "on 24th June, 2021, a court in Kano State acquitted Prof. Solomon Tarfa on charges of ‘running an illegal orphanage’ and ‘criminal conspiracy and abduction of minors’. He has faced a series of false charges, including child abduction and forgery, and appears to have been targeted simply for running a Christian orphanage."
"We expected the children to be released immediately after Prof. was acquitted from the false charges, which was why the children were seized in the first place." "We demand an unconditional release of these children from detention back to their original home at Du Merci Orphanage with immediate effect."

Reason they should be released:

"That the constant pressure piled on the children at Nasarawa and Gaya Homes, where they are unjustly incarcerated, to convert to Islam confirm that the actions of Kano State Government is nothing but religious persecution and religious intolerance in violation of Section 38(1) of the Constitution.

"For this reason we are asking the Kano State Government to expedite release and return of the 16 Du Merci Children and to ensure that full compensations are made for all human rights violations and the trauma caused to the family during this lengthy and flawed process"
