As TV licence holders, taxpayers and fans of Atlantis, we object to the BBC's decision to cancel the quality family drama Atlantis.

It is appalling that the BBC is cancelling a genuinely exciting, interesting, and quality family fantasy drama and instead using license fee payers money on banal, insensitive ‘documentaries’ such as its recent Posh People. Drama aimed at the family is rare enough, so it is especially disappointing that the BBC has decided to axe Atlantis after only two series.

This cannot go on and we demand that the BBC uses our licence payments to produce and show us television that we deserve to watch, will entertain us and make our lives more adventurous, not stuck in the reality world we live in.

The BBC must remember that these are times when many of us are becoming rather insular by interacting with smartphones, laptops etc. and dramas such as the brilliant Atlantis gives families the chance to escape reality for an hour or so, and enjoy it together.

We call on the BBC to accept it has made a mistake and reverse its decision to axe Atlantis and commence production on a third series immediately.
