The one thing that's more dangerous than skating around a bowl is when the lights go out... MID RUN!

Hi, My name is Alicia. I am a new resident not only to Pittsburgh but to the United States. I love to skate transition! Dropping in on a steep ramp and whipping around a bowl is one of my favourite things to do and if you're here, I'm sure you enjoy it too.

I drive 20 minutes every time I want to skate, I live in Canonsburg and the park here is pretty bad for the level of skating I do. Pitcher's Memorial Skate Park is the best one around and has so many fantastic sections!

Last night I was there skating the bowl and it was a little too dark to skate comfortably. A few times I miscalculated when to pump because I couldn't see the bump and I fell hard into the concrete...

I started speaking to a local there, he told me there's a light in the bowl and it doesn't work properly. It turns on at 6am and that's no use to us! The rest of the lights at this park are dim and barely light up all the park effectively. However, I would at least like to see the one in the bowl fixed.

Not only would I like to fix the lights, I would like to implement some kind of warning that the lights are about to go out so people who are mid-run can safely end their run without being in the dark. Perhaps, instead of going out "a little after 10pm" they go out at 10pm sharp or dim down slowly.

I am in the works of contacting the city and I would love to show them how many people care about this issue. If you are a local who skates this park, someone whose dealt with this lack of light before or simply want us skaters to ride safely, then please sign this petition!

Thank you!

Alicia
