Once again, the Board of Education of School District No. 61 is proposing massive cuts to Greater Victoria music programs across a number of schools. This time, the Board is moving fast and so should we. 

Hello, my name is Julianna Faustino. I am a current student at Reynolds Secondary School and an alumni to Lansdowne Middle School. I not only speak for myself when I say that music is the root of my success today. Our music teachers are some of the most caring, dedicated and loving individuals you will ever come across; without them, I know for a fact I wouldn't be where I am today. Throughout my time at Lansdowne Middle School, orchestra was the only class I would look forward to. Why? Because of the community, the energy, the love and the passion for music. 

Music was, and always will be an incredible resource that helps us thrive as students. PLEASE DO NOT take this opportunity away from us and our younger peers. These children deserve band trips, music festivals and concerts.

Our beloved music programs have created not only an abundance of joy, but a home to countless students across our district. By defunding these programs, the Board is taking away from our mental health and our community.

We are the students, and this is our voice.
