Petitioning The Board of Education of Malverne Union Free School District #12

Rescind all recent salary increases for Superintendent and Administrators

We, the residents & taxpayers of Malverne Union Free School District #12, send notice to the Board of Education that we condemn the recent resolution and schedule A added to the agenda of July 10, 2012 Board Of Education meeting to award salary increases and lump sum payments to members of the central administration and superintendent. The increases should be rescinded until there has been proper evaluation and discussion.
We feel these raises were awarded without merit and without transparency to the school district community. In these difficult economic times, it is fiscally irresponsible and morally bankrupt to award raises to individuals who a) have not been formally evaluated and b) done without prior notice to the community
In May of 2012, the community approved a difficult and stringent budget that included a reduction of staff, services, and programs. The vote was approved with the understanding that the school district was in the midst of a difficult time, financially. To award several members significant raises without any input by the community members while our students feel the sting of services and personnel being cut are unconscionable acts.
These raises were never discussed at the time of the proposed budget and in the budget cycle. There should be someone outside of the school district to review and recommend any pay increases and it should be part of the budget.
In addition, we condemn you for your failure to consider other alternatives prior to extending the school district superintendent’s contract. The contract of Mr. Hunderfund was extended without consideration of alternatives, a formal evaluation, or input of the community.
The Malverne Board of Education's July 10, 2012 resolution and schedule A to award salary increases and lump sum payments ignored the critical community values of shared sacrifice and a quality education. The Board’s actions lack transparency and integrity.
