The CCSD 15 School Board unanimously approved a $130 million building bond referendum to be placed on the ballot for the November 8, 2016 General Election.  Our grass roots organization, 4RD15Kids, stands in strong opposition to this referendum for a variety of reasons. Please learn more about our position below.

The Administration and the Board of Education for Community Consolidated School District 15 (CCSD 15) have stated that they have several long term objectives for the school district, and have developed a plan to achieve those objectives.  During the August 17, 2016 Board of Education meeting, recommendations were made to the Board of Education to achieve those goals which included a $130 million building bond referendum and a plan that includes significant boundary changes throughout the school district.

After presenting this plan and accompanying referendum for the very first time, the Board of Education unanimously approved putting it on the ballot for the General Election on November 8, 2016.

The question on the ballot will read as follows:

Shall the Board of Education of Palatine Community Consolidated School District Number 15, Cook County, Illinois, build and equip two school buildings, acquire a site for one of said school buildings, improve the sites of both of said school buildings and issue bonds of said School District to the amount of $130,000,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?

Simply put, the Board of Education is asking us, District 15 taxpayers, to approve of their borrowing of money to finance their plan.  While many of the Board’s objectives are sound (offering full-day kindergarten, reducing time spent on the bus, etc.), the Board’s entire process in rushing serious decisions that affect our children and our families, is not:

On Tuesday, November 8th, “VOTE NO” because:

  • Lack of Necessary Community Engagement.
  • No Due Diligence Relating to Referendum and Plan.
  • Lack of detailed financial reporting to justify $130 million in bonds.
  • Boundary maps have changed several times since referendum approval on August 17, 2016.
  • Numerous questions remain unanswered.

Vote “NO” to send a message to the Board of Education that this process was fundamentally flawed, and far too rushed.  With more time, we can get this right!

Let's do right by our children and our community.  Let's send a message to CCSD 15 that we need to work together to design a solution that achieves the strongest education possible for our children.  Let's make sure that the plan and referendum that is ultimately approved is both fiscally responsible and provides for educational equity throughout the school district.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who ask the community to “Vote NO” to the referendum in the November 8th election.
