Mustafiz Rahman started this petition to THE BLACKPOOL PIER COMPANY LIMITED and

In June 2020, a number of dead pigeons were being found quite regularly washed up on the Blackpool beaches, this was later followed by a member of the public witnessing pigeons being shot under the Blackpool North Pier. This was also further followed by a sighting of a grey vehicle labelled 'feral pigeon control' and pigeons being shot (pictured).

As you can imagine, this wasn't a very pleasant site for members of the public including tourists to have to witness, without mentioning roosting pigeons being shot.

It was later confirmed by the Blackpool Pier companies (via twitter) that they carry out the 'licensed removal of feral pigeons' due to 'health and safety.'

Reportedly this is for 'protecting' their workers, yet Blackpool Pier Company have shown no use of preventative measures as requested and would also be required under a 'WML GL41 general license.' With the pier being subject to the tide and water in general, it would be fair to make the assumption that most pigeon droppings would wash away regardless.

A number of wild birds including Starlings seek refuge and sanctuary on the piers, this being for their safety and not to cause a nuisance to humans.

We (wildlife lovers) would request that tourists re-consider their visit to any of the Blackpool Piers in future until a humane alternative is used for this purpose.
