19 jul 2026 — UPDATE: THE ANNETTE ACT IS STILL MOVING FORWARD First, I want to thank every person who has signed this new petition. We are now at 390 signatures, and every one of you has helped keep The Annette Act alive after the original petition was reported and taken down. A lot has happened since I last updated everyone. We recently attended the preliminary hearing in Annette’s case. I cannot share every detail while the criminal case continues, but the hearing raised serious questions and reminded me exactly why this work matters. There were warning signs, protection orders, repeated calls for help, and so many opportunities for someone to recognize how dangerous the situation had become before Annette lost her life. At the same time, The Annette Act is continuing to move forward. I am preparing to meet with Colorado lawmakers, advocates, and representatives from Violence Free Colorado. Our larger meeting is scheduled for August, and several of them have also offered to meet with me beforehand to learn more about the proposal. I am sending them an overview that includes Annette’s story, why I created the act, the research I have been doing, and the full table of contents showing the 42 areas of reform I am developing. This proposal includes coercive control, stalking, protection order enforcement, lethality prevention, repeat offender accountability, family court and child protection reform, survivor housing, financial stability, and The Annette Recovery and Stabilization Program. This is becoming a real conversation, but I still need your help. Our original petition reached more than 700 signatures. Those signatures did not transfer when the petition was taken down. If you already signed this new petition, please keep sharing it. Tell people that anyone who signed the original petition must sign again. Send the link directly to people instead of only posting it. Ask your friends, family, coworkers, and community members to take one minute and sign. We already reached more than 700 once. We can rebuild those signatures and go even further, but I cannot do it alone.
