The ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran should not be invited to Finland's Independence Day celebrations.

We call on the president of Finland Sauli Niinistö to stand with the people of Iran and stop legitimizing the terrorist regime of Iran. 

As we are approaching the celebration of the Independence Day of our beautiful home, Finland, in Iran (other home of many of us writing this letter), people are being slaughtered on the streets by the Iranian government. 

Since the brutal arrest of 22-year-old Mahsa Jina Amini on Sep 16, 2022, and her death due to being beaten up by the so-called morality police ignited the protests against the Iranian regime, over 280 people were killed, 44 of which were children under the age of 16. Over 14000 protesters were arrested and the regime is showing the most violent inhumane actions to oppress the protesters. The world is starting to recognize the inhumanity of the Islamic republic regime and take actions like taking away the seat of the Islamic Republic of Iran from UN’s commission on the status of women, canceling the invitations of Iranian government representatives for Nobel prize ceremony, and so on.

We are sincerely asking Finnish leaders to stand in solidarity with the Iranian people by not inviting the officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran’s embassy to the celebration of Finland's Independence Day. They are not the Iranian people’s representatives. And the representatives of murderers don’t have any place in the festivities of independence of the country of peace and democracy.

Iranin islamilaisen tasavallan suurlähettilästä ei tule kutsua Suomen itsenäisyyspäivän juhlallisuuksiin.

Pyydämme Suomen tasavallan presidentti Sauli Niinistöä auttamaan Iranin kansalaisia ja lopettamaan kansaansa terrorisoivan Iranin hallinnon toimivallan tunnustamisen.

Kun täällä Suomessa hiljalleen lähestymme itsenäisyyspäivän juhlallisuuksia, samanaikaisesti monien tämän kirjeen allekirjoittajien kotimaassa, Iranissa, hallinto tappaa kansalaisiaan kaduilla.

22-vuotiaan Mahsa Jina Aminin brutaalin pidätyksen ja kuoleman 16. syyskuuta 2022 jälkeen yli 280 ihmistä on tapettu – kuolleiden joukossa on 44 alle 16-vuotiasta. Yli 14000 protestoijaa on vangittu. Iranin hallinto on osoittanut äärimmäistä väkivaltaa ja epäinhimillisyyttä hiljentääkseen protestoijat. Iranin hallinnon toimintaa on kansainvälisellä kentällä laajasti tuomittu. Tällä hetkellä esimerkiksi Yhdysvallat ovat esittäneet Iranin islamilaisen tasavallan poistamista YK:n naisten aseman komissiosta, ja Ruotsissa Nobel-komitea on ilmoittanut jättävänsä tänä vuonna Iranin suurlähettilään kutsuvieraslistaltaan.

Pyydämmekin Suomen päättäjiä osoittamaan solidaarisuutta Iranin kansalle ja tuomitsemaan maan hallinnon brutaalit toimet jättämällä Iranin islamilaisen tasavallan suurlähetystön edustajat pois tämän vuoden itsenäisyyspäivän juhlallisuuksista. He eivät edusta iranilaisia, vaan väkivaltaista ja kansalaisiaan sortavaa hallintoa, mille ei tulisi antaa minkäänlaista sijaa demokraattisen Suomen itsenäisyyden juhlallisuuksissa.
