Stop the inhumane treatment of patients at Advent Health East Orlando Fl.

My mother Ramona Salcedo was Admitted to Advent Health East Orlando in Orlando, Fl. On August 30,2021. At the time my mother was positive with Covid-19. So we (her Immediate family) We’re not allowed in her room for 10 days and We did not have direct contact with her, we only had contact with her nurses. We called every day to check on her and make sure she was well and the report was that she was ok. On Sep 11,2021 I called the hospital to get an update on my mom and spoke to a nurse on duty who told me my mom was ok, 20 mins later after this call I received a call saying my mother was unresponsive. I quickly realized that my mother had not been checked on at all prior to me calling. At this time we quickly rushed to the hospital, upon our arrival to my moms bedside, we noticed that the room was filled with ants, spoiled food and liquid all over the floor. At this time the medical staff at Advent health east orlando informed us that our mother could not eat solid foods due to her oxygen levels, and she was bed written with an oxygen mask that she could not remove for long periods of time. Even though they informed us of this, they (Advent Health East Orlando) continued to serve her solid foods daily. They not only continued to give her solid foods, but they were placing her food on the sink where she could not reach it and not monitoring if she was eating or not. We immediately made sure my mom was given something to eat and upon her eating she gained strength and was responsive and alert! She went 11 days with out eating and all the while the nurses didn’t once inform us in any of the updates that our mother wasn’t eating. The first words our mother said to us were you don’t know what I’ve been through in here. My mother began to tell us that at some point she threw up and asked the nurse to help her, the nurse told her she didn’t have throw up on her and walked out the room and closed the door on her. When we arrived we in fact saw that my mother had clearly thrown up all over her gown and it was still under her neck. She tried to clean it up her self but was not able because she couldn’t reach, due to IVs, and her oxygen mask. At this time WE began to clean our mother up and change her gown. The next day when we arrived to the hospital we noticed she had blood on her blanket and a glucometer that was used to check her sugar had been left on her thigh. At this time a Dr.Lugo called us to give an update on our mother not realizing we were actually in the room with her at the time, she informed us that our mother had eaten 25% that day. We continued to tell her that was not true, we are looking at our mothers food and it has not been touched, and knowing that my mother could not feed herself no one came into help her. She paused in silence when she realized we were in her room and began to apologize for giving the incorrect information. We had to let the new shift nurse know again that my Mom could not eat solid foods and also was not able to eat on her own. This nurse informed us that he was not aware of this, and if we had not informed him he would not have known. On 9/14/2021 my sister was with my mom and the nurses came in to change her, upon doing so they forgot to put her oxygen tube back in. My mom began to wave her hand and signal to my sister that she was in distress and my sister quickly fixed her tube and put it back in. If my sister were not there at that moment my mother would have been left with out oxygen. The nurses apologized a couple of times for this, but this is unacceptable! Two nurses and not one noticed that my mom was left without oxygen? On this same day my mother was to receive a respiratory treatment, when the gentleman named Luis came in to give it to her my sister was on her phone FaceTimeing her husband. Luis then began to imply that my sister was recording him when she showed him she wasn’t and that she was on FaceTime with her husband he still seemed angry and said my mothers breathing treatment was over after just 2mins. My sister stated to him that he never gave her the treatment and he responded “like I said treatment is over”. At this point because we began advocating for our mothers care and bringing to attention what was wrong we can see and feel the resistance from her medical staff. My mother’s BI-pap mask was leaking and after calling the nurse 4 times at 3pm, they finally showed up at 12:26 pm. When they finally came in to fix her mask they put Band-Aids all around it to try to stop the leak, but they also covered one of her nostrils with a bandaid making it harder for her to breath. I called a Nurse and they finally changed her mask only for the new mask to have a leak as well. At this point my mom did not receive the oxygen she needed for 10hrs! They finally made the decision to change the machine and the mask to fix the very serious problem that my mother was not receiving the oxygen that she needed! We were also informed by a Dr. that my mother had blood clots to later be informed that he misinformed us yet again and she didn’t have blood clots. The miscommunication that goes on between the medical staff at this hospital is detrimental to patients and kills people. My mother was given an IV by a nurse who did not insert it properly and turned her entire arm black and swollen! She was severely mistreated and not cared for at this hospital! On Thursday 9/23/21 at 12:30 pm Kaitlyn gave us a call to inform us that my mother's oxygen was dropping and she was only going to have a couple hours left to live. We asked that a chest x-ray be done. Upon doing the x-ray we found out that my mother’s oxygen was dropping because her chest tube had to be realigned. Again, we had to ask for an x-ray to be done, thank god we did and waited to make any major decisions about my mother life before the X-ray was done. Once the chest tube was realigned she was breathing to the high 80's again! In the days to come my moms oxygen levels dropped and they transferred her to ICU they told us There was nothing more they can do. Upon finally doing another X-ray they realized that my mothers lung had collapsed, they inserted a chest tube and my mothers oxygen levels went up to the 80s. My mothers levels were going she was improving drastically! And with in hours we received a call that she passed. Upon getting to the hospital we noticed that my mother was given two medications in the time frame that we were not there (only because they did not allow us to be there) medications that we specifically told them not to give her because they can be fatal. And this ultimately stopped my mothers heart. My family was devastated as anyone would be, and this hospital and it’s staff had no compassion for my mom or us. They even accused my brother of having a weapon in is back pack and proceed to search him as he’s crying over his mother who just died! Only because they thought he had recorded them so they were searching for any videos he had and covered it up by acting like they were searching for a weapon. No person should have to live the last day of there life the way my mom did especially in a hospital with so called trained professionals. She was severely neglected, left in vomit and pee, not fed and malnourished for days, she was mis diagnosed over and over, she was severely injured with something as simple as an IV, she was left with out oxygen for hours when she desperately needed it due to plain negligence, and ultimately killed due to wrong medication. This is our story, but there are so many more just like ours that come from this hospital! Just look up there google reviews and you can see for yourself! The lack of care, Knowledge, bedside manner and compassion at this hospital has to change! People are dying! Please help us make this change and sign this petition so that this hospital can be investigated, so that reviews, and families who are saying something can be heard! So that they can be held accountable! So that the agencies and people in government who can make a difference step up and do something!
