If it had even been an option to do joint guardianship or had I been at all encouraged to keep my baby likely my daughters adoption wouldn’t have happened and at least I would have had some legal protection for me and my baby if the adoptive parents changed their minds. We need to start recognizing that an able mother abandoning her children because that’s what adoption and APS require is child abuse and is NOT in their best interest and IF adoption happens, which should be the absolutely last resort after exhausting all other options, mothers and babies need to have their connection legally protected.
