As you will read below, the officials at the SFOT have decided to NOT renew Bill's contract. First, he catches on fire, now, they rip out his vocal cords. THIS IS NOT OK!!! we need to speak up and let the 55 who made this BAD decision know how we feel! BILL BRAGG ***IS*** THE VOICE OF BIG TEX! BRING BACK BILL BRAGG!!!
For the past 11 years, attendees of the annual State Fair of Texas in Dallas have been welcomed by the deep, rich, booming voice of Big Tex. However, behind the scenes the man at the mic has been area resident Bill Bragg. Today, the Fair announced that they opted to not renew Bragg's contract for the 2013 season.
The man behind the voice of Big Tex toldKRLD today:
“I’m just shocked”, said Bill Bragg. “I’ve done everything I can over the last 11 years to be the best that I could be for the State Fair of Texas – I’ve grown up here in town and I’ve gone on the Midway for the last 66 years.
“I was planning on doing this for the rest of my life. I just don’t know what to say. I’m just shocked, dismayed and brokenhearted.”
As soon as word leaked out, the Big Tex Grief Support Group on Facebook posted the news that Bragg will not return this year and fans of the page immediately began expressing their feedback and sharing the info on their personal pages.
"This is so wrong," said Julia Rose. "Will it even be Big Tex? New face, new voice, new animatronics. I wonder if he will even be a cowboy anymore."
"Well, there goes my day," said fan Ashley Miller.
The official statement from Fair organizers reads as follows
“The talent contract for the voice of Big Tex is handled on a year to year basis. A contract agreement requires both parties to abide by the terms of an agreement. Bill Bragg will not be offered a talent contract this season.”
