Despite hall fees of $13,072 – $20,800 per academic year, VUW Halls of Residence require residents to spend $2 for every use of washing machines or dryers. Students in Halls are paying prices higher than many alternatives within the already extremely expensive Wellington rental market. With cost of living in Aotearoa at an all-time high, it is unjust to expect residents to pay for laundry, an essential service. 

We therefore request that all halls of residence remove the charge for doing laundry, including washing machines and dryers.

Alternatively, we request that VUW release any relevant financial documents that show that it is unviable for VUW Halls to remove the $2 charge per use.
