That the Province of B.C. Protect Native Tree Species within Building Envelopes

That the Province of B.C. Protect Native Tree Species within Building Envelopes
The Issue
We the signed call on the province to make it illegal for all native tree species to be removed, if they fall within Building Envelopes under the Province's auspices.
At present the Province does not protect trees that fall within municipal building envelopes from removal. The result of this lack of regulation is one of the main causes of urban deforestation and the steady degradation of local eco-systems in British Columbia.
This is the province’s responsibility to resolve, as municipalities fall under provincial auspices.
The more time spent stalling on this issue, the more irreplaceable native biodiversity will be lost forever.
Many species are dependent on native tree species, as they evolved symbiotically over many thousands of years.
Furthermore, the urban forest is crucial for its many benefits including cooling, water retention, noise reduction and pollution filtering in the urban landscape and are necessary for a healthy living environment.
If the Provincial governing body is at all serious about protecting, as opposed to decreasing the urban forest, native/endangered eco-systems and biodiversity, instead of playing mere lip service to them, then the Government must immediately address this issue by putting an end to this devastating activity. It can do so by moving at once to change Provincial Law, so that all native trees are protected within the building envelopes under the province's auspices.
