Thank you for Protecting our Coast

Thank you for Protecting our Coast
The Issue
On August 5, 2015, Senator Barbara Boxer along with Senator Feinstein introduced a bill that will expand the California Coastal National Monument to include several amazing areas in Humboldt, Santa Cruz, and San Luis Obispo Counties - from elephant seals in Piedras Blancas to redwoods at Cotoni-Coast Dairies.
Providing a uniquely Californian experience, the 'California Coastal National Monument Expansion Act' will permanently protect important habitat for threatened plants and animals, improve outdoor recreation opportunities in these areas, and support local economies through increased recognition of each area’s unique characteristics, ensuring future generations will have ability to experience the lands as they are today.
When the California Coastal National Monument was established in 2000, it protected 20,000 rocks and islands off the coast. In 2014, the monument was expanded onshore with the welcome addition of the Point Arena-Storentta Public Lands in Mendocino County by presidential proclamation. With Senator Boxer's bill, more coastal lands will be protected.
Thank you, Senator Boxer, for working to protect the unique California coastline and please continue to fight hard to ensure the legislation becomes law.
