ALERT: Caltrans insists its concept for a 4-lane highway in Gualala is still “on the table.”

Only YOU can stop it IF YOU ACT RIGHT NOW!  It will take you just 3 minutes to protect Gualala for the next half-century.

Save Gualala already sent in nearly 1,500 signatures and 100 comments saying you don’t want a four-lane highway. Many of you also wrote notes on your own. In response, Caltrans recently proposed a very reasonable landscaped three-lane approach – Alternative 4A – that both Save Gualala and the Gualala MAC endorsed.

BUT NOW Caltrans says it needs to hear it directly from you, again. Until it does, it says all prior proposals "remain on the table."  So PLEASE take 3 minutes to write to Caltrans. Please send the following message to:  GualalaDowntown@DOT.CA.gov

“I endorse Alternative 4A, including: 2 traffic lanes; 1 lane for interim parking or turns; landscaped sidewalks; speed controls; and bike paths on the shoulders – with a width of no more than 60 feet.”

Please include your name, town and zip code. (eg: Gualala 95445, Pt. Arena 95468, Sea Ranch 95497, etc.)

What will it look like when done? This painting  by a generous Save Gualala volunteer shows how all the safety improvements and landscaping can be included while preserving the downtown charm we all love.  (By contrast, the 4-lane concept would be up to 16 feet wider at this spot including space for a turn lane, and it would have no landscaping based on Caltrans’ own data.)

We’ve all worked very hard to ensure Caltrans follows the environmentally sound core elements of our Town Plan, which is also our Coastal Plan. The things we're asking for are required by County Code.

So PLEASE take 3 minutes NOW to formally endorse Alternative 4A.
