It’s crunch time in our effort to Save Gualala!

On Thursday night, Caltrans will hold a virtual Meeting and conduct a survey. The outcome could either protect our charming downtown or steam-roller a quarter-century of our careful community planning efforts. If that happens, Gualala could still end up looking like a Strip Mall.

Please attend and Take the Survey!  Caltrans says it will pay special attention to those from Gualala (95445) and the neighboring communities that depend on Gualala. (Meeting and Survey links Below)

Save Gualala supports Alternative 4A which includes landscaped sidewalks, separated bike paths, two traffic lanes, and one lane for turn pockets or interim parking. We believe this complies with our Town Plan requirements -- and that it can be built without a costly and time-consuming Coastal Plan amendment.  The Gualala Municipal Advisory Council (GMAC) has unanimously backed Alt 4A for the same reasons.

HOWEVER, the survey is key.  Caltrans plans to ask attendees about each element in the project. Depending on what YOU say, the outcome could undermine all the planning efforts conducted in our community since the mid-1990s.  PLEASE DON’T LET THAT HAPPEN! Show them that 1,465 Gualala-lovers on our petition are united on ALL the elements. Any deviation could result in a whole new concept. 

Here’s what to do on Thursday evening:
- Attend the meeting:  Thursday, Jan. 14, 5-7 pm pt
(We suggest you log in a little early)
- Support Alternative 4A
- Complete the Caltrans Survey choosing these elements:

·              Landscaping throughout the entire downtown area

·              Interim parking from Church to Ocean on the east side

·              Sidewalks and separated bike paths on both sides

·              Speed controls to enhance safety

·              Turn pockets between Center and Church
