Would you want Gualala to end up with a four-lane highway as our Main Street? With no landscaping?  No?  We didn't think so.

Well, Friday is YOUR last chance to tell Caltrans that you support a narrower, landscaped highway design called Alternative 4A that would reflect the natural beauty around us while maintaining our small-town charm.  A young Save Gualala artist captured it in the painting below.

Our Save Gualala petition demanded such a three-lane approach: two traffic lanes, one additional lane for parking or turns, landscaped sidewalks, and separated bike paths on the (otherwise unused) shoulders. Alternative 4A includes ALL those things and keeps the width within a 60 foot corridor shown in the painting. (The four-lane concept includes up to 76 feet of nothing but concrete and pavement!)

Caltrans itself came up with the more modest Alternative 4A last month, but then said that “all options remain on the table.”  And the proponents of the four-lane scheme won’t let that plan die.

If you already told Caltrans you support Alternative 4A, THANK YOU!  If you haven’t, PLEASE do it right now.  It’s important that we show our community is united behind this plan.

This will just take you a couple of minutes.  Please send the following message  to GualalaDowntown@DOT.Ca.gov along with your name, town and zip code (eg: Gualala 95445, Pt. Arena 95468, Sea Ranch 95497, etc.).

“I endorse Alternative 4A, including: 2 traffic lanes; 1 lane for interim parking or turns; landscaped sidewalks; speed controls; more crosswalks; and bike paths on the shoulders – with a width of no more than 60 feet.”

That's it. Thank you in advance for trying to keep Main Street from turning into a four-lane highway!  Your voice really matters.
