Opposition to Left Turn Ban From A205 Onto Cavendish Road

The Issue

The undersigned oppose TFL's proposed ban on traffic left turns from Clapham Common South Side (A205) onto Cavendish Road on the grounds that the proposed diversion of traffic onto the gyratory will have the effect of causing significant amounts of southbound A205 traffic to use the roads in Abbeville Village as a rat run - thereby endangering pedestrians, schoolchildren at Lambeth Academy and property on roads that are clearly unsuited for this displaced traffic. The environmental impacts of noise and traffic pollution (exhaust fumes, particulates) on this residential area are not addressed in this TFL proposal.

The roads affected include, but are not limited to:

Abbeville Road, Elms Road, Elms Crescent, Narbonne Avenue, Cautley Avenue, Lessar Avenue, Lynette Avenue, Klea Avenue, Rodenhurst Road, Hambalt Road, Park Hill, Briarwood Road and Englewood Road

We do not believe that TFL has provided all potentially affected residents on these roads with notification of the proposed changes.

We support the provision of a pedestrian crossing on Cavendish Road wholeheartedly but not at the expense of reducing road safety in Abbeville Village and irrevocably changing the nature of this residential neighbourhood. We object to this proposal and request it is re-considered.
