Give TWU 2020 Graduates an in-person ceremony.

Give TWU 2020 Graduates an in-person ceremony.
The Issue
Graduation is an important, special moment at the end of each student’s college career. Each one of us has battled through many challenges in our lives and our college careers, including a pandemic. Yet we all continued to push with our Pioneer Perseverance. Will you stand with us and help us fight for the honor and graduation ceremony we have all earned and deserved?
Texas Woman’s University students will have spent an estimated amount on total tuition, fees, and living expenses, of $80,000 on a 4-year bachelor’s degree. Texas Woman’s University prides its self on being a “Campus with a Heart.” Yet they are making the decision to forgo the in-person ceremonies. The Texas Woman’s administration is choosing to strip the graduates of the fullness of their achievement. With all that the graduates have achieved and overcome, they are well deserving of an in-person ceremony.
There are alternative options to be able to safely have an in-person ceremony for 2020 graduates in Denton, Texas. Such as, outdoors in the former golf course, on the soccer field, or renting a venue such as the UNT’s Apogee Stadium or even Texas Motor Speedway. Limiting the number of guest students can have and adding more ceremonies could also help to ensure proper social distancing. There are plenty of steps that could be taken to ensure a safe in-person ceremony could take place. Anyone choosing to participate would be doing so at their own choice and they should be allowed to make that decision.
Please stand with the 2020 graduates and honor them by giving them what they have earned. A real, in-person commencement ceremony. Be a “Campus with a Heart.”
