Are you planing to attend the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) enrollment event? The event will be held on Monday, October 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Goodwill Community Center, which is located at 1015 Norwood Park Blvd, Austin, TX 78753. Representatives will be on hand to answer all of your important ACP-related questions.
ACP is an FCC program that connects low-income families and households to internet service. The Affordable Connectivity Program offers a monthly discount of up to $30 for broadband service and a monthly discount of up to $75 for households on qualifying tribal lands. If you are eligible, this is an excellent opportunity for you and your family to obtain Internet access; additionally, sign the Texas Technology for All petition and support Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ) in assisting low-income, underserved, and underrepresented communities.
Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ) partnered with other organizations tin 2020 to launch a regional campaign to assist Texans who have the greatest need for technology education and internet access. Our nonpartisan Texas Technology for All campaign has three components:
- Provide internet access for low-income, underserved, and underrepresented communities.
- Connect low-income, underserved, and underrepresented communities with technology devices (mobile hotspots and computers).
- Upskill and reskill low-income, underserved, and underrepresented communities to transition into the technology industry (using tech, developing tech, and/or working in tech) in order to apply for the technical and nontechnical jobs on our job board.
This petition has been collecting signatures from those who support digital equity for our most vulnerable communities and will be delivered to local authorities for the following purposes:
- Broadband Development Council: The Texas legislature created the Broadband Development Council to research and identify ways to provide internet access to underserved areas of Texas. Involving groups such as AUTMHQ and other organizations will help ensure that the voice of underrepresented communities, including those in rural and urban areas, are represented in discussions for the development of broadband access plans throughout the state.
- Operation Connectivity Partnership: The Governor’s Operation Connectivity partnership was created in an effort to “connect all of Texas’s 5.5 million public school students with a device and reliable internet connection.” Involving groups such as AUTMHQ and other organizations to the Governor’s Operation Connectivity partnership helps advance the goal of developing actionable playbooks that are inclusive of all Texas students, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
If you support reliable and high-speed internet access for all Texans for economic growth, the development of technology skills, and access to education, please consider signing this petition.
Individuals and families needing access to technology or interested in training and development to enter the tech industry can complete a Needs Assessment form via https://www.autmhq.org/needsassessmentform.
