Move Summer 2 classes online for Texas State University

Move Summer 2 classes online for Texas State University
The Issue
Being Exposed to Covid-19 has unknown long term effects and has been shown to have side effects for even some of the healthiest people. This is why keeping Summer classes online is the bare minimum that should be done to keep students healthy and as the community around the University has become a hotbed for COVID-19. The situation has worsened since the lockdowns, in April there were 89 cases in total for the entirety of Hays county. Now there are 235 cases alone in San Marcos in 61 days. The percentage of COVID-19 cases has increased by 545% in a little over two months with less than a quarter of students on campus. This may not seem like a major health concern to students that are in there 20's but with more students even with certain measures taken, College students will still go to parties and be exposed to the virus that will be tracked back to a classroom and thus causing further exposures to the virus to students who may be at risk but could not get the documentation to support that or take it back to a family member that is at risk. Moving classes online prevents more students from coming back and spreading the virus and putting even more people at risk of exposure to this virus. Additionally, with classes being online, it allows the community to recover from this surge of COVID, it gives the university more time to implement safety features for students and guarantee our safety as well as ensuring the safety of every family that has a loved one attending Texas State. Classes moving online would allow for the hospitalizations to decrease as well with them sitting at 14.8 percent and needing to stay under 20 to stay at a stage 3 outbreak instead of stage 4, but this number is increasing every day as well with the exponential growth of the virus that we have witnessed over the last couple of days. The summer 2 classes being moved online can eliminate a ton of worry and anxiety by allowing people to take their classes from the safety of a comfortable environment. While this may not be favored by some it is the most necessary thing to do, because every day that is spent in safety lets the health care professionals of America complete more research and allow for more to be known about the virus. Also, all major universities in the great state of Texas are staying online until the fall, we should at least follow suit with universities that have their students best wishes in mind.
