Turn over the care of Montgomery County Animal Shelter to a nonprofit organization

The Issue

We, the volunteers and supporters of Montgomery County Animal Shelter, request that the management of Montgomery County Animal Shelter be entrusted to a nonprofit organization.    The shelter is currently managed by Care Corporation which is a for profit endeavor. With it being a for profit company the motivations of Care Corporation have come into question. The welfare of the animals at the shelter, adoptions, population control and reducing euthanasia rates are our top priorities. A responsible nonprofit group would share our concerns and include veteran shelter volunteers and animal advocates that are not only experts on the daily operations and running of the shelter but also have ideas on how to improve it.

There are a growing number of county animal shelters being managed by nonprofit organizations across our nation with many already successfully established. These organizations are able to streamline budgets and supplement through charitable donations and grants to more efficiently allocate county funds often resulting in a reduction in operating costs thus benefitting the county tax payers. In addition, unlike a for profit enterprise, a nonprofit group utilizes all proceeds toward its mission allowing the implementation of helpful programs such as a low cost spay and neuter clinic open to the public.

We, as a community, share the responsibility to care for and find homes for the homeless animals in our county. The only way we can truly fulfill such a responsibility is under the leadership of people who have dedicated their lives to the same cause.

We, the undersigned, urge you to honor our request and place the management of Montgomery County Animal Shelter into the capable hands of a nonprofit organization.
