Sex education in Texas is severely lacking. Right now, Texas schools are not required to teach sex education. If they choose to offer sex education, they are required to emphasize abstinence until marriage, however sex education programs in Texas are not required to provide medically accurate information about contraception.

Not only this, but topics such as masturbation, pleasure, abortion, sexual violence, and even the practice of giving and getting consent are not discussed in a medically accurate way, or even at all. Sex education in Texas also very rarely discusses gender identity and sexual orientation and how those things directly affect safe sex practices.

By signing this petition, you are telling the Texas legislature that medically accurate, all-inclusive, comprehensive sex education free from stigma is important and necessary to keep Texas teenagers and young adults safe and informed.
