With nearly one in four of the 25 million Texans lacking health coverage today, Texas has the most to gain from the Affordable Care Act and expanding Medicaid to include adults with incomes below 133 percent of the federal poverty level. In addition 600,000 working people in Harris County are eligible for health coverage in 2014 if Texas Legislators support the Federal Affordable Care Law. Texas has an opportunity to dramatically decrease the uninsured rate, improve families’ economic security, and reduce uncompensated care costs that burden hospitals.
