Build us a NEW San Jacinto Bridge!!

Build us a NEW San Jacinto Bridge!!
The Issue
The people of Baytown and surrounding areas are tired of the current San Jacinto bridge and the problems that have been arising due of the damage it has received this year and in years past. This year alone, the bridge has been struck by barges twice (Feb 2019 and Sept 2019). In February, the bridge was under construction and caused major delays in traffic for months. Now, the bridge had again been stuck and damaged by multiple barges on both East and West bound sides of the bridge. The delay this time will be much longer than the previous few months we suffered in February.
This bridge is a very important mode of transportation locally and nationally. Locally, it is one of just a few ways that people living on the East side of Harris country and Chambers Country can use to travel to work into Houston and surrounding areas. This is also a main evaluation route. Nationwide this bridge is a section of I-10 that is used to transport goods across the entire country from Florida to California.
When the San Jacinto bridge is out of service you are rerouting not only local traffic but - high amount of national traffic including many 18 wheelers and other load carrying vehicles.
I have spoken to some people who hold offices in our area and they assure me a new bridge is in TXDOTS LONG term plan. That is NOT good enough for me. It needs to be in the immediate plan.
I ask you to join me and sign the petition to let TXDOT, the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, and the City of Baytown along with any other official who may have a say in getting this new bridge built sooner.
People are suffering by having to endure multiple hours of travel that should only be a 30 minute commute. People are not able to make it to work and doctors appointment due to this bridge being hit. I could list all the inconveniences but it would be too many.
We need a NEW bridge. Not a patched up bridge that is only waiting to get hit by multiple barges again in a few months so we can be back in this dilemma.
This is your chance to let ALL OUR voices be heard!!!!
