August 18 of 2017 my 13 year old son was hit by a car walking to school. He sustained damage to his left leg and foot, but he walked away from this accident alive. My son loved to walk to school in the mornings and walked home. We live within a mile radius from the school so I allowed him to walk. After the accident I noticed things that I had not noticed before. We live in a small town in Texas called Bridge City and I've always loved the schools but never noticed that there was no sidewalks, caution lights, or crossing guard for our children. I never noticed until my child was hit. I quit letting my son walk to school after the incident,  and told him when it was safe for him to walk I would let him walk again. He begs me daily to walk to school, and I feel terrible, but I can't allow it until it is safe!! This is important because I don't want another family to go through receiving that heart wrenching call that their child was hit by a car, and I definitely don't want this to end with a child losing their life. Please petition for this!!! It's not asking a lot!!! I feel like it is simple. Our school should have a crosswalk, flashing lights, and a crossing guard for our children's safety!!
