We say NO!!! to concrete plant near RCMS

The Issue

Royse City, TX has experienced amazing growth.  With that growth comes the need for more concrete.  We need more concrete plants.  However, concrete plants DO NOT belong in close proximity to a school.  These plants require a permit to release air contaminants, namely silica dust, a known and well documented carcinogen, meaning it causes cancer.  It also causes silicosis, a chronic debilitating condition for which there is no cure and can also be fatal.  These findings are well established by the CDC, NIH and the American Lung Association.

Texas Commission for Environmental Quality has granted JCK Concrete a permit for a concrete plant a few hundred of feet away from the Royse City Middle School, a campus of over 2,000 children, that will all be exposed to these air contaminants on a regular basis.  What's worse is there are two more campuses, Ruth Cherry, and Davis Elementary, right behind the Middle School!  These campuses are used for constant outdoor sports games and practices.  The younger kids are outside every day for recess and the community uses the track for fitness all the time.

Now that JCK Concrete has been approved by the TCEQ for this concrete plant, the school system, city of Royse City and the community are scrambling trying to figure out what can be done.  There has been an established precedent of the State of Texas jurisdiction, with the backing of the Attorney General, Ken Paxton, overriding any local jurisdiction or say in the matter.  As of now, it appears the only clear solution would be to ask TCEQ to reconsider and appeal the permit they granted JCK Concrete on 8/20/18.  Please sign this petition and help us ask TCEQ to do the right thing.
