Continue the Paws in Prison program at the Lockhart Correctional Facility as it is.

The Issue

Paws in Prison has helped hundreds of women return to their communities as more responsible, capable people. Through care and training of rescue dogs under the supervision of a knowledgeable and compassionate prison staff member, women inmates learn valuable life and job skills. During the period of their incarceration in the Lockhart Correctional Facility, participation in Paws in Prison gives them a strong incentive to keep their records clean because they must abide by rules to get in and stay in the program. This makes for an easier to manage environment within the prison. The inmates in this program have achievements to be proud of -- saving the lives of more than 300 dogs who have been adopted and continue to be canine good citizens in their homes in communities all over Texas, and beyond.
