Today, I emailed President Young, attached is the letter as well as an agenda for my meeting with the President, below is the body paragraph of the email I sent to him and his cabinet:
President Young (with Dr. Benedik, Dr. Means Coleman, Dr. Fierke, Mr. McGinnis, Dr. Pugh, Sr., and Dr. C.J. Woods cc'd),
My name is Morgan Gimblet and I am a senior Race, Ethnicity, and Gender studies major. I am a student leader and serve as the president of Feminists for Reproductive Equity and Education (F.R.E.E.) that participates in local, statewide, and national student activism.
After seeing the viral video over last weekend, and like you and many other Aggies in the community, I was troubled and upset by the hateful remarks. In the spirit of support to help the University address and prevent issues of racism and discrimination from happening again, I created the petition. I understand that the administration works tirelessly to handle these issues, and I would like to be included in change by advocating for increased accountability. My petition recommends, among other things, that students sign an honor code. You will see that have outlined several other positive recommendations in the petition which has over 1,596 supporters. I would like to aid you in any way I can with implementing changes on the University level.
I hope we can schedule a meeting to cover how I can support the University in implementing change and how I can work with you to add to the progress of the university. I will be back at Texas A&M on August 26th and I look forward to coordinating with you for future efforts.
