The Issue

H-E-B has long been a source of pride in Texas, celebrated for its generosity, community support, and commitment to doing the right thing. That is why it is deeply concerning to see H-E-B continuing to distribute Israeli goods, especially as the world recognizes Israel’s crimes.

On September 16, 2025, the United Nations Commission of Inquiry released a report confirming that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The report cites mass killings, the targeting of civilians, destruction of homes and infrastructure, and systematic attempts to make life unsustainable, including destruction of medical facilities and access to food and water. These findings are echoed by 31 Arab and Islamic nations, the Arab League, the African Union, and the International Association of Genocide Scholars, which recently passed a resolution declaring that Israel’s actions meet the legal definition of genocide under the 1948 UN Genocide Convention.

H-E-B has built over a century of trust by standing with communities during disasters, fighting hunger, and leading with integrity. Continuing to sell products from Israel, given the overwhelming evidence of crimes against humanity, undermines H-E-B’s reputation as a company that puts people before profit.

This petition is not about Jewish food or communities. We recognize that many kosher items are important to Jewish Texans. Our concern is not with kosher food, Judaism, or Jewish culture but with products that directly profit the Israeli state and its institutions responsible for ongoing atrocities. Kosher alternatives can be sourced from the United States or other countries, and H-E-B has the power to ensure Jewish customers are not deprived of access to the food they need.

We also recognize that Texas law limits official boycotts of Israel by companies contracting with the state. Our petition does not demand a political declaration, but calls on H-E-B to act responsibly by reviewing its sourcing and providing transparency to its customers. At minimum, H-E-B can clearly label Israeli products so Texans can make informed ethical choices, expand alternatives so no community is left without access to essential items, and consider directing proceeds from Israeli goods to humanitarian aid for Palestinians.

Call to Action: H-E-B must remove Israeli products from its shelves and, when it comes to kosher items, seek out alternatives that do not fund the Israeli state. Texans should never be forced to unknowingly support genocide at the checkout counter. Texans have always trusted H-E-B to stand with communities in times of crisis. Now, H-E-B must stand with Palestinians facing one of the gravest humanitarian crises of our time.
