Teva Pharmaceuticals keep producing the medication Nefazodone indefinitely..
The Issue
From August of 2020 to December of 2021 Teva Pharmaceuticals didn't produce the unique antidepressant medication Nefazodone due to a "shortage" of an ingredient. Patients lives were turned upside down. There was no warning of this and many patients had to go cold turkey off the medication. Others had to lower their dosage drastically and eventually ran out. Most of us had been on this medication for 20+ years and helped our depression and anxiety greatly. Nefazodone is a one of a kind medication and most of us could not find any other medication that would help us. We experienced terrible withdrawals, uncontrolled panic attacks, became unable to leave our houses, became traumatized, and even suicide attempts. Also our depression and anxiety came back full force. Antidepressants should never be stopped abruptly, but some had no other choice. As patients we called Teva repeatedly and reached out to the FDA to get our medication back.
Teva finally announced in September of 2021 that Nefazodone would be back by the end of 2021. On December 20, 2021, Nefazodone was once again available. We are very thankful that our medication is back and the communication the FDA provided to us. Some people are still struggling to get back on the medication and get relief of their symptoms. We are starting this petition to Teva and the FDA to never let Nefazodone go into shortage again and to produce it indefinitely. This is vital to our lives and we can't tolerate another shortage. We are depending on Teva to make Nefazodone indefinitely as another shortage could cost people their lives.
