Tesla, please fire Elon Musk.

Tesla, please fire Elon Musk.
The Issue
TO the Tesla Board of Directors:
We
— Tesla owners, Tesla stockholders, and Tesla fans —
are enormously proud of what Tesla has done to advance technology and enable a cleaner environment.
Some of us are deeply frustrated that Tesla's accomplishments are not celebrated more widely by our leaders, especially in the Democratic Party.
But whether the politicians acknowledge it or not, we believe Tesla has fundamentally changed the trajectory of technology in America, and has made a clean energy future more possible.
We also believe that these enormous accomplishments have been achieved because of the leadership of Elon Musk. He has been tenacious in pushing the company to achieve what few believed possible, and in inspiring so many millions to believe in a different future.
But Elon Musk's behavior shows us he has grown tired of Tesla. His almost exclusive focus on Twitter has denied Tesla leadership at a critical moment in the company's life.
Even now that he has announced that he will step down from CEO of Twitter, he indicates he will continue to run the software and server teams.
We believe that Tesla needs a full-time CEO — a manager who can assure stability and vision, and grow the company profitably as new competitors emerge.
We don't criticize Elon Musk for the choice he makes about his own priorities. We wish him well.
But we do believe that it is incumbent upon the Tesla Board of Directors to ensure that the company is led by a CEO who actually shows up to work, and who can lead Tesla in the next stage of its life without the distraction of perpetual Twitter wars.
If Steve Jobs was the Elon Musk of Apple, we believe Tesla needs its own Tim Cook.
We urge the Board to begin that search and to free Elon Musk to pursue his objective to "save humanity" by building a "free speech absolutist" Twitter.
Tesla can't "save humanity." But with the proper leadership, it can deliver affordable clean technology that might well help save the planet — for humanity.
