You might have noticed l or 2 extra tills opening up at your Tesco's megastore? Well, its not because Tesco's have recognised that their new self-service-card-only-tills (SSCOT's) discriminate, or cause significant problems to those who pay in cash, or prefer humans to machines!
It's more that (forgive me if I am a cynic!) the cost of living crisis and the massive rise in the cost of your shopping can't be talked about with a machine. Only humans can empathise or explain about the situation in which you find yourself. That many of you can no longer afford the range of goods and groceries you used to get, and are cutting back. Its more that people can only interact with people and Tesco's are in danger of losing the trust and confidence of customers as they haven't explained properly why so many items cost so very much more. Hence more customer service tills have, by way of miracle, opened up!
We all know about the war in Ukraine, we all know about the cost of fuel, the price-hike in electricity and gas, but quite how do those issues and higher costs cascade down to the cost of shopping? Quite how do they correlate?
Manufacturers are having to pass increased costs on to the middle-man - the supermarket, but are the supermarkets still making exceptional and inordinate profits? If you buy less, the profits go down, so the supermarket will say they are making losses. But is that a true reflection of the reality of this cost of living crisis. It begs a question.
Will catch up soon.
With the very best of regards
Pat
