Dear Friend

Firstly thank you for signing and sharing the petition.

What might we want to come of the Petition:

l) Victory would be when there is the removal of some of the self-service-card-only-tills.  Not every SSCOT as for some the new SSCOTs are both helpful and meet their needs.  But the return of more staffed check-outs. Not one or 2 but more.  I want this across the country, not just in Osterley.  There's got to be a commitment to a People and Profits Policy, not a Profit before People Policy.

I want Tesco to confirm that they see believe it important and will  invest in the excellent staff there are in Tesco, especially the check-out staff.  I want them valued and Tesco to confirm their value publically. All staff matter and fewer staff work for Tesco now than 5-years ago.

2) I would like to see a commitment by Tesco of how they are going to meet the needs of people who are disabled, across the spectrum of illnesses,  disabilities and health conditions.  I do not believe the new self-service-card-only-tills are accessible for anyone in a wheelchair either.  There are so many people who are disadvantaged, not just those with disabilities.  In the London Borough of Hounslow alone there are 25,000 disabled people.  I would like to see the removal of some of the self-service-card-only-tills and them being replaced by staffed check-outs. I do not believe there has been any equality audit of the new SSCOTs and there should have been, as otherwise I would not have started this petition. I want an equality impact assessment done and a commitment in future that any changes such as the SSCOTs would be equality audited - its dead easy to do - it should have been done.  If Tesco can't do the equality impact assessment audits, Disability Network Hounslow will advise on how to do them.

3) Victory is a commitment by Tesco across the country, Scotland and Northern Ireland to bring back staffed tills and reduce the number of SSCOTs  in stores with a greater understanding of who is affected by these new SSCOTs - a Statement must be combined with a commitment for change and a policy change-around on investment in the staff working for Tesco. I want a realistic timeframe attached to the commitment to remove the SSCOTs and return some, not all to staffed check-outs.  Tesco managed to put the SSCOTs in virtually overnight, surely Tesco can agree to a quick turnaround and change.  I want to know what the short-term, medium and longer term plans are to go back to more staffed customer service tills.  An equality impact assessment is required to be done and that needs to be undertaken sooner rather than later - in my view immediately. (as 2 above).

Human resources is about partnership - understanding and action for change.  That change can't come soon enough.  Let's commit together to develop the active partnership that makes companies and in particular Tesco thrive.  Profits are very important to achieve, but people matter too.

4) I and my team from Disability Network Hounslow, my daughter Tash  and Hanif Khan our video-maker would like to meet with Ken Murphy the Chief Executive Officer of Tesco who we want to take active steps and a turnaround to the Tesco Replacing People by Machines policy.

Kind regards
Pat
