After I had my meeting with Tesco, you may be wondering what the plan is with the petition now. At this stage, Tesco have not agreed to stop selling eggs from caged hens (despite the petition growing in scale). Given that Tesco are not willing to make the change that so many people wish to see, I am not willing to close the petition and I hope that you will continue to support me and the campaign. I really do believe that caging hens is not the way forward in the farming industry. It is clear to see that I am not alone in my views. Public pressure and rising awareness make obvious that, for many, animal welfare comes before price. Although Tesco may not believe that the number of petition supporters doesn't equate to the huge stake in Tesco’s overall customer numbers, it cannot go unrecognised that the petition has only been active for just over 3 months. In just another 3 months, the number of signatures could potentially double. Surely, Tesco can't ignore half a million people? However long it may take, I will continue the petition and I will continue to campaign for better welfare for the animals that create the produce that stock supermarket shelves. I think it is so important that just because these animals aren't necessarily seen by the public, that their existence doesn't become publicly invisible. I would also like to thank all of the petition supporters who took the time to leave their own personal comments explaining why they want Tesco to stop selling eggs from caged hens under my last update. Reading the comments has given me an insight into the opinions of other people-and the comments make it clear to Tesco that it is not only me that wants to see the change, but the 279,000 supporters as well. Now, the plan is to raise even more awareness for the petition in the hope that we can encourage even more people to sign. As a way of gaining more awareness, we are hoping to involve a celebrity with the campaign. In the future, I would like to maintain contact with Tesco and hopefully meet with them again to discuss the petition as it continues to gather momentum. As a way to help, please share the petition on social media (or online in general), or even spread to word of the petition to anyone who may be interested. Given the number of supporters the campaign already has, if everyone who has signed the petition shared it in some way, the number of signatures could significantly increase. Your help to share the petition could really make a difference! Once again, thank you for your incredible support! I hope that you continue to follow the petition and the progress we will hopefully make! I could never have reached this stage without you. Thank you again Lucy
