Change Edmund Pettus Bridge to John R. Lewis Bridge

Change Edmund Pettus Bridge to John R. Lewis Bridge
The Issue
Time for change.
Time to establish a visible and lasting honor for Rep. John R. Lewis
Five years ago, I launched a similar petition to honor Rep. John R. Lewis. In the new beginning of this new decade, 2020, I am pleased to again do so.
We wish Rep. John Lewis the best in his fight against pancreatic cancer. We pray and believe he will be successful. But It is not enough to later heap flowers upon this deserving national hero; the time is now.
The history of Selma, and "Bloody Sunday" is rich, and deserving of constant reminder.
A Lasting Change:
Renaming the Edmund Pettus Bridge and roadway "The John R. Lewis Bridge", and the highway over which it hangs, to "The John R. Lewis Highway,” will be the ultimate and lasting tribute. Doing so will demand a recounting and telling of a history that should never be forgotten.
How fitting it will be to see a "John R. Lewis Highway" and a "John R. Lewis Bridge", that physically and figuratively lead the way forward.
I ask the nation to not simply nod in agreement, but to proactively support this petition to honor one of America's greatest heroes - a man who lives his convictions each day of his life.
Thanks.
