As a lifelong citizen of Rock Island, the tragic loss of Jakarta Jackson, a 21-year-old black young man, deeply affects our community .Officer Brett Taylor of the Rock Island Police Department played a direct role in this by manifesting and murdering Jakarta in front of his daughter, who now has to grow up without a father . We, together, must stand against police brutality and highlight an instance happening close to home, in a bid to bring about justice and prevent future incidents.

The shocking statistics indicates that black people are three times more likely to be killed by police than their white counterparts (according to a study reported by Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, USA). Yet, the officers involved are often left unpunished, fostering a cycle of violence and injustice. It's critical to take direct action to call for accountability and justice.

We demand Officer Brett Taylor's termination from his position within the Rock Island Police Department, reflecting our collective commitment to justice, safety and respect for all members of our community.
