Terminate Muskogee Animal Control Officer Jerry Jobe and Investigation of Phil Blair
The Issue
Kali, our beloved pet, went missing for 36 long hours. Frantic and consumed with worry, we posted on various platforms, reaching out to the community, sharing her description far and wide. The people of Muskogee rallied alongside us, each one involved in the search for her.
Despite our efforts, she was picked up by Animal Control Officer of the Muskogee Oklahoma Animal Shelter, Jerry Jobe. Her paws were worn and torn from wandering, but she was healthy and eagerly awaited to be reunited with her family. Importantly, Kali was microchipped, our information was readily available with the shelter, and we had made it abundantly clear to the shelter that we were actively searching for her. Phil Blair, Supervisor at the shelter, was the first one to know of Kali and our information, and Blair was needed to give permission to euthanize Kali. Whether Blair gave that permission or Jobe acted solely on his own, is not a known fact.
In a distressing turn of events, Officer Jobe made the irreversible decision to euthanize Kali after only having her in their care for just over an hour on Sunday the 15th of June. There was a complete disregard for protocol, as there were no attempts to contact us before making such a critical decision. In an act void of accountability and compassion, we were only informed of her passing the next morning Monday June 16th, before we could get there to pick her up during business hours at 10 am Monday morning on the 16th of June.
Such negligence and lack of professionalism cannot go unaddressed. We demand the immediate termination of Officer Jerry Jobe, and investigation and possible termination of Officer Phil Blair, the supervisor of the shelter, that was the first employee of the shelter to know about her missing, and who had to give permission to euthanize Kali. This action is not merely about accountability—it's a necessary step toward ensuring that no other family endures this heart-wrenching pain due to procedural failings.
The Muskogee Oklahoma Animal Shelter must be held to a higher standard, with officers who are adequately trained and compassionate in their roles. Please join us in seeking justice for Kali and preventing future injustices by signing this petition to remove Officer Jobe from his position and investigate the role Officer Phil Blair to implement more stringent, accountable procedures at the shelter.
