The ongoing conflict in Gaza has caused a personal upheaval that is hard to put into words. Its impact on countless families, continues to amplify each day as they grapple with the severe shortage of the most basic and essential resources - food, clean water, and adequate medical care. Think of the persistent atmosphere of fear and uncertainty that citizens, especially innocent children, have to live through every day. Their education is interrupted, their life, marked by trauma and instability.

Canada, as a developed nation, should prioritize humanitarian initiatives rather than fueling conflict. Our nation’s funding aids the Israeli government, which indirectly propagates the ongoing conflict in Gaza. This is not a stand for or against Israel, but rather a plea to redirect financial efforts towards humanitarian causes that directly contribute to the volatile environment endured by the civilians in this region.

 Canada announced CAD $140 million to foreign aid in Israel in 2024. However, these resources should be repurposed toward fostering peace and supporting initiatives that ensure the supply of essential resources to the conflict regions, including Gaza.

We call on the Canadian government to reevaluate its financial aid policy, particularly towards Israel, and channel these resources more effectively. The objective should be the international development of peace and humanity.
