A NEW PROFESSIONAL TENNIS TOUR / P.W.T.A.

The Issue

As of 2019 the ITF, International Tennis Federation, changed the way the professional tennis tour would operate. A new ranking system along with new rules and smaller draw sizes now makes it nearly impossible to pursue a professional tennis career unless you are already a highly ranked player. Instead of helping those starting out or on a comeback it is protecting the top players who don't need any assistance in the first place. What many people don't know is that only about the top 200 players on both the men's and women's tour can make a living playing professional tennis. Yet that hasn't stopped the pursuit of that dream by hundreds of thousands of adult and junior players, parents and families, coaches and officials around the world. The new ITF changes have taken away The Dream and replaced it with a boxed up, condensed, commercialized product for corporate sale and for the elite to pursue.

Under the new rules there are two different ranking systems. One is the ITF world tour rankings which consists of all the 15,000 and 25,000 entry level tournaments, of which there are 24-less tournaments than last year, and the other is the WTA and ATP rankings. In short, for Players starting out or players whose rankings have slipped below 500, they will have to play the now smaller size draws of the ITF tour at the 15,000 level tournaments. A player must then climb the rankings to the top 10-15 spots to qualify to play the next level the 25,000 tournaments where there will be five spots reserved for those highest ranked. Then once you have made this ranking climb to the top of the ITF tour you must then start over and climb the ATP/WTA ranking. In other words, you have to do the same job twice. Before, when there was only one ranking system, a player knew where they ranked in the world and had the freedom to sign up for any tournament in the world with the hope/chance of gaining entry. That freedom is now taken away and every player below a certain ranking is now forced into a cattle line to enter a tournament through only one open door. Needless to say, only a few will gain entry. All others will be left out. How many left out? It is estimated that around 5200 players (men and women) are immediately effected by these rule changes. That's a lot of players who won't get a chance to compete or pursuit their dream and without that chance to pursue it is only a matter of time before those players will be out of the game they love, forever.

The solution is a New Professional tennis tour. The newly formed, PLAYER'S WORLD TENNIS ASSOCIATION (P.W.T.A.), is now in the process of bringing back the dream. A professional tour for the players to compete on, earn prize money, normal to larger main draws and qualifiers, end of the year 64 player bonus tournaments, multiple tournaments in same locations to save on costs, all players allowed to sign-in, result driven sponsor payouts, bonus point ranking system, and crossover tour wildcard possibilities.

Now we need you! Sign up if you would be in favor of a new professional tennis tour.
